I BEND, BUT I DON'T BREAK

Victim of sexual violence at school at the age of seven, Karol, a Black transgender woman from the periphery, has accumulated countless traumas since early childhood. After the death of her parents while she was still a child, she ended up living on the streets — a space she sees as her intermittent home — in a daily struggle for survival, constantly being evicted from her tent and subjected to aggression by the municipal guard.

In her past, involvement in illicit activities led her to prison, where she suffered immeasurable abuse and violence until she contracted HIV. Without resources or support from the State, she faces numerous hardships every day, with little prospect for her future.
